Shopping with the Dogs

Every year a group of Hartwell Elementary second graders get the treat of Christmas shopping with Hart County High School Seniors during the annual Shopping with the Dogs program. Groups of four seniors pool together $25 each to take a student on a $100 shopping spree at Walmart.

Tax commissioner Pierce to retire

After 15 years of community service, Hart County Tax Commissioner Burl Pierce is retiring before his term is up in 2020.  “It’s been a good 15 years,” Pierce said. “I love people. I love attempting to help people.

Can the county deny Bowersville bump money?

Hart County commissioners are not the only folks with differing opinions about whether the commission has the authority to deny Bowersville special purpose local option sales tax money for an unpopular speed bump project completed earlier this year.

Deputy dogs recertified for duty

Deputies Chuck, Sena and newcomer Parker Jean are on the case at the Hart County Sheriff’s Office. The four-legged deputies, whose noses are their greatest assets, recently received certification to continue their roles in local law enforcement.

Recycling program at high school expanding

Hart County High School recently expanded its plastic bottle recycling program. Science teacher, Justin Lee, has worked with the Interact Club recycling plastics in six individual classrooms over the last two years.
