March 3, 1911 — A hog that ate dynamite and was “blown into atoms” when a Georgia mule kicked it made headlines around the state. The incident occurred in Worth County, The Hartwell Sun reported, after a farmer’s hog ate a stick of dynamite that was unintentionally left lying around the farm.

Hart Habitat set for big weekend

The Hart County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build, scheduled for Saturday, March 7, is changing locations. The new build will be at 1024 Mt. Olivet Rd. Due to inclement weather, the group was not able to complete the groundwork needed for the planned construction at Craft Road.

Plunging to stop domestic violence

Dozens of people braved chilly temperatures and frigid water at Hartwell Marina on Feb. 29 as they jumped into Lake Hartwell to take the 24th annual Polar Bear Plunge to raise money for the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence.

Rezoning approved despite objections

Early voting, qualifying begins Monday

Monday marks the official start of the 2020 election cycle. Early voting for the presidential preference primary begins Monday, March 2 and will be available Mondays through Fridays until March 20. Voting will be during office hours, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Board discusses homestead exemption

The Hart County Board of Commissioners again discussed increasing the Homestead Exemption for senior citizens at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 25, but did not take action. The board was in favor of increasing the exemption by $5,000 for people 65 or older.

Teen Summit set for March
