State veterans services dept. had a busy 2019

The Hartwell office of the  Georgia Department of Veterans Services had a “very busy year” in 2019 serving an estimated 1,656 veterans from Hart County and 1,271 veterans from Elbert County, according to department officials.

Upson hoarding case sends 88 pigs to Hart County

A group of starved and mistreated pot-bellied pigs from Upson County have a new place to stay at a sanctuary in Hart County and the leader of that sanctuary hopes they will eventually find permanent homes.

February will offer many opportunities for locals to take part in community events. Whether it is a regional chili cook off or a parade to celebrate black history month, options abound this coming month. The Harmony House Child Advocacy Center 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be from 4-6 p.m. on Feb.

Hart County High School Principal Kevin Gaines is one of six finalists in the running for the Principal of the Year award presented by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals. The GASSP announced the six finalists last week for the distinguished award.

An old Ford Dealership in downtown Hartwell will soon be the home of a bakery and coffee shop and a homegoods and design store. They are part of a few new additions the new year is ushering in for downtown Hartwell.

MANHUNT NETS MURDER ARREST

A 12-hour manhunt ended Tuesday morning when Hart County Deputies and Georgia State Troopers arrested a man in front of South Hart Elementary School they say shot and killed a man and wounded a woman Monday.
