Former Hart County and current Emmanuel College guard Shone “Spud” Webb collected more accolades than he could carry while helping lead his team to a conference championship. After Webb was redshirted just a season ago, he didn’t know what his future looked like for the Lions.

Soccer teams go 1-2 in three game stretch

The Dogs soccer teams split against Rabun and Oglethorpe on the road, while both fell to Oconee at home in the region opener. The teams started the three-game stretch with a trip to Rabun County on March 2. The girls picked up a 5-3 win led by sophomore forward Channing Segars’ hat trick.

Elite Eight Ending

The Hart County boys’ basketball tournament run ends with a road loss to Cross Creek in the elite eight. On March 1, the Dogs traveled down to Cross Creek, and the back-to-back state champions in AAA were looking to continue their run at another title.

Hart County lost one of it’s more influential citizens on Friday, March 3 when beloved teacher Bonnie Granville passed away at the age of 67. Granville served as a teacher within Hart County for 44 years, starting at Mt. Olivet Elementary back in August 1978.

An emotionally charged meeting of the Hartwell City Council on Monday resulted in a 4-3 vote by the council to not allow liquor stores to reach the ballot for possible consideration by voters.

The Hart County Soccer Dogs continue their hot streak versus Jasper and Crescent. Hart traveled to Jasper County on Feb. 23 to take on the Hurricanes at home. The Lady Dogs got off to a quick 3-1 lead, but couldn’t maintain it as it ended in a 3-3 draw.

Racket Dogs fall to Oconee at home

The Hart County Racket Dogs hosted the defending region champions on Tuesday but fell to the Oconee County Warriors in both matches – girls 0-5 and boys 0-5. “All I can say is that we gave it a good try,” said Racket Dogs head coach Cheryl Tierney. “Oconee County is always tough.

The Hart County slow-pitch softball team started the season off with a bang, sweeping Gainesville in their season opener. Lady Dogs head coach Katie Jo Gentry said it is always hard for softball players to make the transition from fastpitch to slow pitch in just a matter of months.
