Mat Dogs get ready for Region Area Tournament

The Hart County Mat Dogs will compete in the Region Area Tournament on Saturday, to potentially advance to state in Macon. Mat Dogs head coach Sean Gaddy preaches that the wrestlers have to consistently get better.

Soccer Dogs start the year off 1-1

The Hart County soccer teams dropped both games on the road versus Cedar Shoals, while sweeping the Leopards in the home opener versus Banks County. The teams traveled to Cedar Shoals for the season opener Jan. 27.

Lady Mat Dogs take over the podium at Stephens County

Two girls placed in the top three on Saturday as the Hart County Lady Mat Dogs competed in the Currahee Ladies Tournament in Stephens County. Mat Dogs head coach Sean Gaddy said that this was the final individual tournament before regions this upcoming weekend.

Basketball splits against Monroe Area and gets swept by Hebron

The Hart County basketball teams split games on the road versus Monroe Area while dropping both at home versus Hebron Christian. The teams had to travel to Monroe Area Jan. 27 to take on the Purple Hurricanes in the Purple Pit.

Soccer Dogs get ready to kickoff their season

The soccer Dogs 2023 season begins Jan. 27, as they travel to Cedar Shoals to take on the Jaguars. The boys team had one of their best seasons in 2022, finishing 12-5-2 overall and made it into the state playoffs as a four seed. It was only the second time in the program’s history.

Former Hart County and Notre Dame tight end Cane Berrong committed to Coastal Carolina last week to continue his athletic and academic career.

Carter commits to track for Emmanuel

Senior trackstar Valasha Carter committed to Emmanuel College Jan. 18. She shared her commitment on all of her social media platforms, along with a message speaking about her commitment to the Lions. “First, I want to say thank you God for everything,” Carter said.

Dogs basketball teams pick up fourth region win

The Hart County High School basketball teams swept the Warriors of Oconee County at home Jan. 20. Both teams also won on the road against Franklin County Tuesday. Lady Dogs head coach Mike Edwards has mentioned in the past that there are three tiers in the girls side of Region 8-AAA this year.

Meeks retires as pastor after 28 years

After more than 28 years serving as the senior pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hartwell, Terry Meeks has decided to retire. Meeks was just a kid when he knew he was called to be a pastor, and he found a unique way to practice how to preach.
