A manhunt for a reported active shooter in the vicinity of Mize and Buena Vista roads came to an end late Tuesday afternoon.
As of Wednesday morning there were few details about the incident, but Brandon Richard Nash, 30, of Cleveland, Ga. was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Local Angel Tree project donates scores of gifts and clothes to needy children

For the last twelve years, the Bell Family YMCA and Hartwell’s First Methodist Church have sponsored the Angel Tree project during the holiday season.
The project collects gifts and clothing to local foster children in the area in the hopes they have a Merry Christmas.

Bad weather causes train derailment

Last weekend’s bad weather helped cause a train derailment on the Hartwell Railroad Company’s line running along Bowersville Highway on State Route 51 west of Hartwell. The heavy rain caused the track to move which caused the derailment on the morning of Dec. 11.

The Mat Dogs traveled to Elbert County on Nov. 29 to take on the Mat Devils and Harlem High School.
