Hart County man indicted for elder exploitation

On April 23, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced that Lawrence Montgomery, Jr. of Hart County pleaded guilty to one count of felony exploitation of an elderly person. Montgomery was the personal representative for his 77-year-old mother, Ruth Montgomery.

ATLANTA – Delays in processing mail at a new regional distribution center in Palmetto aren’t just affecting individual Georgians trying to obtain vital prescription drugs or pay their monthly rents or mortgages.

Main Street America recently designated Hartwell’s Main Street Program as an Accredited Main Street program for meeting the organization’s rigorous performance standards.

Grooming to be a felony in Georgia

During an April 24 bill signing event dedicated to human trafficking-related issues, Governor Brian Kemp signed House Bill 993, officially making the grooming of a minor for sex a felony in the State of Georgia punishable with one to five years of prison time.

A community of volunteers look past disabilities to find the abilities in athletes competing in the 2024 Special Olympics. On April 17, hundreds gathered at the new recreation department fields for a day of athletic events for the 2024 Special Olympics.
