On Monday, March 20, the Georgia House of Representatives reconvened under the Gold Dome for our last full week of the 2023 legislative session. The end of session is quickly approaching, and we will reach Legislative Day 40, also known as “Sine Die,” on March 29.

During these final days of session, my colleagues and I have turned our focus toward reviewing Senate legislation that passed before the Crossover Day deadline.
The Georgia House of Representatives passed legislation March 20 that would impose mandatory minimum sentences for gang recruitment. The bill now heads back to the Senate for final approve from the Georgia General Assembly before being given to Gov. Brian Kemp and signed into law.

House approves bill requiring mandatory minimum sentences for gang recruitment

The Georgia House of Representatives passed legislation Monday imposing mandatory minimum prison terms for gang recruitment. The bill, which originated in the state Senate, would require judges to impose prison sentences of at least five years on those convicted of recruiting gang members.

Georgia Ag Week celebrates farmers’ many contributions

Georgia farmers grow crops, livestock and timber that feed, clothe and shelter us. That’s why Georgia Farm Bureau and other ag organizations across the state will observe Georgia Ag Week March 20-24 and celebrate National Ag Day on March 21.

Seven year old wins Georgia State Wrestling Championship

Hartwell native, Knox Payne, is now a Georgia Wrestling State Champion, after winning it all in Perry, Ga., on March 5. Payne is in just his second year of wrestling and competed last year in the state competition in the 6U division, but was quickly eliminated after losing both matches.
