Observing Residents’ Rights Month

Last month, a representative reached out to us from the advocacy group, Ombudsman North Georgia Programs and Services Long-Term Care. Regional coordinator Liz Schulze asked if we’d be interested in spreading awareness about Long-Term Care Residents Rights Month, which is October.

Why grow patches of sunflowers?

The love affair goes way back. I’ve always loved digging in the dirt. Maybe it’s the agrarian roots on my mother’s side. Her daddy and his daddy and his daddy walked a thousand miles behind mules. Little wonder I had to have a mule or two or three in my barnyard.

The Dawg Bark: Hart County needs more sports for adults

From the time many of us first started walking, some sport or physical activity was a staple of our childhood. From little league to dance, kids have the opportunity to get a break from school and homework to play and exercise with friends.

REACH program highlights the best of our community

Six soon-to-be high schoolers signed contracts last week to become the newest class of REACH Hart scholars. We were proud to be able to share their achievements with our community and explain a little about Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen (REACH), which has a positive impact on so many.

Tips on cat adoption

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says approximately 1.3 million cats are adopted from animal shelters each year. However, of the cats entering shelters, only around 37 percent are ultimately adopted, according to the National Kitten Coalition.

How to keep pets occupied while you’re at work

If one had to find a silver lining during the global pandemic that kept people close to home for an extended period of time, the chance to spend more time with pets is worthy of consideration. Cats, dogs, birds, and other animals reaped the rewards of having humans nearby for much of the day.

The right type of pet for your family

Welcoming a pet into one’s life can be a rewarding experience. Pets promote compassion and discipline in their owners, and their companionship can be incredibly rewarding. They also can be helpful tools for teaching children responsibility.
