One of the most-photographed landmarks in Wayne County is the 124-year-old brick building in Gardi. Around 1940, Troy Fore Sr. purchased the iconic structure in which he operated The Altamaha Apiaries. In 1969 his son, Troy Jr., established Fore’s Honey Farms. Troy became an influential leader in the beekeeping industry.

By the time I got there in August of 1971, Troy Fore was already at 361 W. Plum St. in Jesup. But the same magnetic force drew us to the Wayne County Press (WCP). On June 30, that “magnet” sat—in his seersucker suit—two pews in front of me at Troy’s funeral.
