The Hartwell Sun

In their own words

There was a time when both political parties wanted the same things—national security, good schools, a strong economy, and equal opportunities for every American to pursue a better life. This was a time when politics was about working through contrasting ideas on how best to achieve common goals.

Growing With Work and Chores

I grew up on a farm and as everyone knows, farms require work. They don’t run themselves nor do they wait for the work to be done. Everything has a season. I was first drafted to work on the farm when I was about eight years old. I worked in the field, hoeing and picking cotton and bell pepper.
One of the most-photographed landmarks in Wayne County is the 124-year-old brick building in Gardi. Around 1940, Troy Fore Sr. purchased the iconic structure in which he operated The Altamaha Apiaries. In 1969 his son, Troy Jr., established Fore’s Honey Farms. Troy became an influential leader in the beekeeping industry.

Vote for those upholding God’s principles

This nation of ours has strayed far from what our founding fathers envisioned and began 248 years ago. Ours was to be a limited representative government, a republic, not a democracy as people love to call it today.

Let Games of the XXXIII Olympiad begin

The closest that I’ve ever been to Paris is 4,364 miles. That was squirming in Mrs. Lois Collins’ eighth-grade French class. Correction. On a Delta flight in 1999 to begin a three-week Middle East Travel Seminar (METS), our plane touched down in Berlin.

Lesson in human decency can be learned in grammar school

When I was in elementary school—it was either the sixth or seventh grade—my classmates elected me to fight a boy named Johnny because he supposedly was picking on smaller kids. It was almost an honor. The fight took place down at the railroad tracks near the school.

The last eight months, I patiently waited for the week of July 15 to arrive. While I’ve never been a big video game guy, there was always one game that used to keep me glued to the TV screen like an adolescent: NCAA College Football.
