The Sun revives Mother’s Day contest; deadline April 25

  This year The Sun will bring back its Mother-of-the-Year contest, its annual tradition from 1966 to 2003. Individuals who wish to nominate their mother or a mother figure in their lives should submit letters to The Sun on why that candidate deserves to be Mother-of-the-Year.

The Hartwell City Council honored Hartwell Main Street coordinator Peggy Vickery on the occasion of her retirement during its meeting April 8 as Mayor Brandon Johnson made the announcement. “Sometimes you get news you hate to hear, but you are glad for the person,” Johnson said. “Ms.

Turn around, bright eyes

On Monday afternoon, Hart County residents were provided an opportunity to see a total solar eclipse for the first time since 2017. The eclipse began around 1:50 p.m. local time, hitting its peak at 3:07 p.m., before ending just after 4:20 p.m.

Council sparks debate on annexation

The agenda for Hartwell’s City Council for April 8 was noticeably light, with  few resolutions, the honoring of a retiring employee, and a discussion on the construction of city hall’s new parking lot.

Commissioners respond to city

The Hart County Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on the evening of April 9, the day after a Hartwell City Council meeting in which the council asserted that a March 26 BOC decision on an annexation request was incorrect.

Hart County Historical Society celebrates Louie L. Morris

The more Hart County history is studied, the more it is believed. According to the Hart County Historical Society, its quite possible that Louie L. Morris has made the greatest contribution to the local community than any other single person.

Hart County Botanical Garden to host spring plant sale

The Hart County Botanical Garden will host its annual Spring Plant Sale. The sale stands as not only a major fundraiser for the garden but is also much anticipated by both master and novice gardeners.     Located at the garden, 1277 Elberton Hwy, Hartwell, this year’s members only pre-sale is Fri.
