After more than 31 years behind the wheel, Tim Strickland has hung up the postal worker cap. With his retirement, Strickland received two awards: one for his 31 years of service and one for a million miles, or 30 years, without a preventable accident.

Reopened Hartwell convenience store receives beer/wine license

A new corner grocery store on Savannah Street will now be able to sell alcohol from their store. The Savannah Market has reopened at 53 Savannah St. and will now be able to sell beer and wine after the city council approved their licence by split decision at their Nov. 1 meeting.

The Georgia Department of Education announced the 2021 graduation rates on October 21, and the Hart County Charter System recorded one of the best in the state with a 97% rate.

Woman drives into side of animal hospital

A 95-year-old woman hit the south-facing wall of the Hartwell Animal Hospital Monday afternoon. The woman was pulling into the lot at 60 Leard Street and attempting to park when she struck the building, said Hartwell officer Matthew Dutton.

On Saturday Oct. 30, a group of UGA students came to research a post-American Civil War cemetery that contained the graves of several slaves in hopes of placing it on the National Historic Register for its significance in history. Down the backroads of Canon, GA.

Man survives being electrocuted in power line accident

A boom truck became entangled in a power line and resulted in a man being electrocuted on Friday, Oct. 29. The truck was leaving Rose Acre Farms on Goldmine Road when the boom raised up and hit the power line, according to Hart County sheriff Mike Cleveland.
