HCHS grad named Virginia Tech football equipment manager

Stewart Carter, 1989 graduate of Hart County High School, was named Virginia Tech’s new director of football equipment. Carter said his career in equipment management grew from wanting to continue to be around football after his high school days.

Farm Bureau ‘Harvest for All’ feeds those in need

Georgia Farm Bureau’s statewide 2021 Harvest for All campaign raised a grand total of $20,000, with a local contribution of $100 from the Hart County Farm Bureau. Proceeds were presented to Danah Craft, executive director of the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA).

Clothes Closet looking for continued support

Hart County Clothes Closet began in 1984 when the Hart Ministerial Association saw a need among the disadvantaged for food and clothing. This clothing thrift shop sells donations to operate a food pantry for needy families who have food insecurity issues.

Annual Polar Bear Plunge set for end of February

The 26th Annual Polar Bear Plunge and Winter Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Hartwell Marina located at the end of N. Forest Ave. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. including a cake walk, face painting and various local food vendors will be present.

Legislative wrap up: week 2

To kick off the state budget process [last week], the House and Senate Appropriations committees held a series of joint budget hearings. Governor Kemp gave opening remarks and presented his formal budget recommendations for the current and upcoming fiscal year budgets.

On Jan. 29, the second Hart County FFA Alumni “Bulldog Showdown” Steer and Heifer Show took place at the Hart County Agriscience Center in Hartwell with several Hart County students placing in top spots against their competitors.
