Car flips near Lavonia, man uninjured

The Georgia State Patrol and the Hart County Sheriff’s Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on Lavonia Highway around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The single-car crash occurred at the intersection of  of Lavonia Highway and Kings Road in Hart County.

Council approves first reading of noise ordinance

On Monday, August 1, Hartwell City Council met to discuss the first reading of the noise ordinance that will include data mining companies and future heavy industries that want to establish themselves within Hartwell’s city limits.

Classical guitarist returns to Hartwell

French author Victor Hugo once said that “music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” This coming Thursday, August 4, professional guitarist Jeffrey Bianchi will let his hands do the talking at the Hartwell Art Center.

Commissioners look to alleviate trash concerns

On Tuesday, July 26, the Hart County Board of Commissioners voted to approve two new jobs to help the county control the uptick in trash volume. Hart County has been experiencing a population increase since 2017, and accompanying the residential growth has been an uptick in trash volume.

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams spoke to an overflow crowd Thursday during a campaign stop at Little Japan Restaurant in Royston. “My name is Stacey Abrams and I intend to be the next governor of the great state of Georgia,” she said to raucous applause.

Last week, the Hart County Charter System (HCCS) was busy preparing for students to return to the five area schools, and teachers were hard at work laying out their classrooms for another year of learning.

Longworth named Teacher of the Year

The Hart County Charter System announced last week that elementary school teacher David Longworth is the 2022-2023 System Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made at the district’s Convocation on July 27, which gathers employees across the district prior to the beginning of the school year.

Hart Co. High School to face new Region 8 opponent this year

Hart County High School’s region AAA Region 8, has swapped out one team for another for the upcoming school year. Former region opponent, East Jackson, has been moved to AA and replaced with Hebron Christian Academy, a school in Dacula.
