If you live in the South, there is one way to know that the fall season has officially arrived, and that is when Mums start decorating nurseries, storefronts, and porches. Garden mums, or chrysanthemums, are a member of the daisy family and bring in vibrant fall colors like red, yellow, and orange.

They’ve Got What?

Normally a friendly and affable young woman, Myra’s only obvious fault was that she was addicted to Mountain Dew soft drinks.  Intelligent and diligent, in her three years with the company she had demonstrated that she was one of its shining stars.
In 2016 my teammate Marcus Waters and I visited during the 50th reunion of Jesup High School’s Class of 1966. As a strong safety for East Tennessee State’s Buccaneers, Marcus helped set a national record for interceptions, and his team won its division’s national championship. Born on Nov. 29, 1947, Marcus died on Nov. 9, 2024.

As they rolled his polished-oak coffin into place, a recording of “Georgia on My Mind” set the mood of the packed funeral-home chapel. That song is one of my all-time favorites. Inside that casket was a high school classmate and one of my all-time favorite football players, Marcus Waters.

Duck hunting season begins Nov. 23

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) has announced the opening of Georgia duck season on Nov. 23. The WRD also announced a special early opportunity hunt available for youth under 18, active military, and veterans on Nov. 16-17.

Angel Tree to help foster children

The 13th annual Angel Tree project will return to Hartwell later this week. This year, Hartwell is looking to sponsor over 100 foster children from the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services from right here in our local community.
