Team Connie Mack Bowers retains Spelling Bee Crown

Six teams representing various organizations on April 28 learned about the words and the bees. The Nancy Hart Literacy Council (NHLC) brought together six competitive teams to help raise support for the Hart County Adult Learning Center in its 20th annual Hart County Spelling Bee.

Candidates for District 33 voice platforms

Candidates for the District 33 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives spoke Saturday at a forum at Franklin Springs City Hall. Incumbent Alan Powell and challenger Dylan Purcell spoke at the forum sponsored by the Franklin County Republican Party.

Property Owners host state rep

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   April 26 •Hugh Sadler, 55, of Hartwell, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of methamphetamines and possession of zolpidem.

On subdivision regulation

Dear Property Owners of Hart County: The Hart County Board of Commissioners may be lowering your property values soon.  On the plus side, taxes may go down. On the minus side, your retirement or legacy may decrease. Current growth along the I-85 corridor is predicted to continue.

Letters to the Editor: On the Hartwell community

Welcome to Hartwell!  It’s the beginning of summer and our biggest tourist season in town. Do we embrace it or disdain it? I grew up in a tourist town near Cape Cod. We were a blue collar cottage community, hosting families from all over New England each summer.

There she sits (written 9 years ago)

There she sits, unblinking eyes wide open, still as a summer sky, my three-year-old granddaughter (she’s now thirteen) sits and steadfastly watches the parent-approved television program. It was at that moment that I realized that I needed to write something about her.
