The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: Feb. 17 • Cody Leroy Fields, 29, of Hartwell, was arrested and charged with theft by conversion, possession of a schedule III drug, possession of methamphetamine and drug related objects (HPD).

Hart Interdenominational Ministry recently cut the ribbon on its new headquarters at 130 E. Howell Street, next to Synovus Bank, in downtown Hartwell.

Bowersville sets event alcohol fee

The town of Bowersville will soon be able to host events with alcohol sales after establishing an alcohol special event license fee at the Feb. 18 town council meeting. The council set the license fee at $50 and the application fee at $300 for a background check.

A small monument to military veterans who fought in foreign wars was given new life recently after it was found in less than top shape. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary memorial was rededicated on Friday, Feb.

Municipal elections on tap in ’21

After a historic 2020 election and a runoff election in Georgia already this year, several municipal positions in Hart County will be decided in 2021. In Hartwell, three seats on the city council  and the mayor’s position will be up for election in 2021.

Jail plans moving forward

Details about a newly planned jail facility are coming to light as the county prepares to send out a request for proposal. The Hart County Board of Commissioners took no action Tuesday, Feb.

Local vaccine clinic ramping up virus fight

The vaccine clinic at Flat Shoals Baptist Church is rolling out vaccines for senior citizens, including 104-year-old Doris Mahannah. The goal is for the clinic to administer 100 vaccines per day, according to Hart County administrator Terrell Partain.
