BOC aims to change state annexation laws

On Sep. 14, members of the Hart County Board of Commissioners expressed they would be prioritizing communicating with state legislators to change the annexation and arbitration laws impacting Hart County residents.

National Merit Scholarship commends HCHS student

Hart County High School Principal Kevin Gaines announced this week that Ethan McDowell was named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Hart Life receives life-like dolls for pregnancy program

The Earn While you Learn program at Hart Life is a service for young pregnant women in Hart County which encourages and rewards willingness to learn how to be a good mother. Last week, the organization introduced 23 life-like, interactive baby dolls to their inventory.

GSP: 3 people injured but stable after dangerous Reed Creek Highway wreck

Three people were transported to the hospital after a car accident in Hartwell on Monday, Sept. 27. Georgia State Patrol corporal William Jordan said the accident occurred at the intersection of Woodlake Landing and Reed Creek Highway at approximately 8:45 a.m.

Experienced, and even highly effective, hunters could go their whole lives without killing two deer with one bow shot. For Hartwell resident MaKenzie Clark, that achievement incredibly came on her first shot in the wild.

City to update Howell Street with sidewalks, other aesthetics

The city is remodeling the streetscape of East Howell Street as part of a bigger vision to make Hartwell more walkable. Mayor Brandon Johnson said the city council wants to turn their attention towards walk-ability and connecting neighborhoods to downtown by improving sidewalks.

Sheriff: Plans for new Hart Co. jail progressing

Planning for the new Hart County jail is nearly complete and Sheriff Mike Cleveland expects the Board of Commissioners to vote on an option at a meeting next month. In July, the commissioners  selected Charles Black Construction Company, Inc. as the construction manager-at-risk for the jail project.

Volleyball gets wins on the road

The Hart County Volleyball teams seems unstoppable as they get four wins on the road this past week. On Thursday, Sept. 16 the Volleydogs travelled to Athens to face Athens Christian and Lakeview Academy out of Gainesville.

Pickleball tourney this weekend

The Lake Hartwell Pickleball Club welcomed a professional pickleball player this week ahead of their first fall tournament. Pro Mark Price came to Hartwell to teach a two-day  pickleball clinic at the Bell Family YMCA.
