City insurance accepts coverage for home damaged by sewage

More than a month after a Hartwell family’s home was flooded with sewage, the city’s insurance is covering the costs of the damage. On Nov. 15, Lauren and Alex Emmons awoke to a “volcano of poop” coming out of their toilet and covering their home at 87 Laurel Street.

WREATHS ACROSS HART COUNTY: Sponsors purchase 954 wreaths for late veterans

About 30 volunteers showed up in the rain on Dec. 18 to place wreaths upon the graves of late Hart County veterans. Sponsors of the Wreaths Across America program purchased 954 wreaths this year for graves in Hart County.

Ace Hardware planned for shopping center formerly known as Bell’s

The new owners of the former Bell’s shopping center plan to add an ACE Hardware to the area as well as more development in the future. Hartwell mayor Brandon Johnson said the new owner Preston Bullock owns several Ace Hardware stores, including one in Lavonia, and currently lives in Hart County.

City sells Oakview Crossing property to developer

An investment group called Mosaic Capital closed on the Oakview Crossing property this week to make the city whole on the remainder of a $1 million dollar loan. Oakview Crossing is the 46.53-acre development site between Walmart and the Ingles Shopping Center in Hartwell.

McDonald’s Shootout next week

The 14th Annual McDonald’s Shootout will take place next week at Hart County High School. The three-day basketball tournament will kick off on Dec. 27 and games will begin at 10 a.m. and the last game will begin at 8:30 p.m. each day.

Mat Dogs feel the heat in the Inferno

The Hart County wrestling team had a hard time in the Inferno on Wednesday, Dec. 15. The first matchup was between the two visiting teams, Hart and Crescent. Hart started poorly with the first four wrestlers being pinned.

Lady Dogs struggle on road against Blue Devils

The Hart County girls basketball team lost in Elbert County on Friday, Dec. 17. Elbert started out hot making a high percentage of shots from beyond the arc, taking a 25-8 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Devils then added 10 points without allowing Hart to score, ending the half up 46-19.

Into the Inferno: Dogs win tough road game in Elberton

The Hart County boys basketball team won a close game on the road against Elbert County on Dec. 17. The Bulldogs ended up winning 53-46, but not without a heated battle to end the game. Hart started out strong, leading 18-7 by the end of the first quarter.
