The Elberton Star releases The Georgia Guidestones special edition

The Elberton Star has released a special edition surrounding the recent bombing and demolition of the Georgia Guidestones. The edition includes a history of the monument, historical and submitted photos as well as other news stories and community reactions.

HCHS coach to be inducted into Georgia Southern Hall of Fame

Hart County High School football and girls track coach Taz Dixon was recently announced as a new member of the Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame. Dixon played football at Georgia Southern from 1986 to 1989 and set six school records while on the team.

Local trainer sets records in powerlifting meet

A 68-year-old Hartwell man set three state records at a local powerlifting meet. David Leard, a fitness trainer at the Bell Family YMCA, competed in his first USPA powerlifting meet in Toccoa on June 25 and set three state records in his age  and weight group of 82.5 kg Master 65-69.

Runners take on new historic Hartwell 5K

An idea that stemmed from a passion for running turned into a new 5K race in Hartwell. Race director Brad Cuevas said the first annual Historic  Hartwell 5K was a big success on Saturday, July 2. “We started out with a goal of 40 people.

On May 27, Royston Police Officer, Rodney Pilgrim, suffered a stroke as a result of high blood pressure. “He is needing time to heal,” Kayla Williams, organizer of a fundraiser for Pilgrim said. “He is slowly waking up and following some commands and trying to talk.

1912: Again the “auto fever” had its grip on some of Hartwell’s citizens. “It looked like no one was going to invest in one of the ‘honk wagons’ any time soon,” The Hartwell Sun reported. “An agent from Anderson, S.C. brought a machine over here and started things going again.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   June 28 •Tiffaney Shanta Allen, 34, of Hartwell, was arrested and charged with felony theft by shoplifting. •A man was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and three counts of reckless conduct.

Hartwell Main Street unveils public piano

On Saturday, Hartwell Main Street cut the ribbon for the town’s new public piano. “Hartwell Main street thought it would be a great idea to have a piano on the sidewalk for folks to play and enjoy,” Main Street chair Peggy Vickery said.
