Lesson in human decency can be learned in grammar school

When I was in elementary school—it was either the sixth or seventh grade—my classmates elected me to fight a boy named Johnny because he supposedly was picking on smaller kids. It was almost an honor. The fight took place down at the railroad tracks near the school.

A very trying week

The last eight months, I patiently waited for the week of July 15 to arrive. While I’ve never been a big video game guy, there was always one game that used to keep me glued to the TV screen like an adolescent: NCAA College Football.

Renovations to the Arts Center poised to ‘bring art to the masses’

On Monday, construction began on a massive renovation to The Arts Center of Hartwell on the downtown square. The hub of Northeast Georgia’s regional arts community, the Arts Center building, located on the corner of E. Howell and Carolina Streets has been condemned for more than a year.

Rome/ Richardson revitalization continues “behind the scenes”

In November, the community members spearheading the ongoing Rome and Richardson neighborhood revitalization efforts hoped to see house renovations begin within the following months.

TSPLOST “needed,” residents say

After a whirlwind of discussion on TSPLOST and road issues throughout this month, traffic and transportation concerns resurfaced at the Board of Commissioners’ (BOC) July 23 meeting. The BOC addressed a dangerous intersection and residents expressed support for a future TSPLOST.
