Veterans have valuable resource

Local veterans are fortunate to have a little extra help accessing the well deserved benefits they receive for their service to our country. The Georgia Department of Veterans Services served more than 1,600 veterans in Hart County in 2019 and another 1,200 in Elbert County.

Gangs aren’t just a big-town issue

We learned firsthand this past week that  gangs are not just a big-city problem. Street gangs don’t care how big the town is. A homicide on Monday on Friendship Road involved two people police believe to be gang affiliated.

Youth have good idea for Hartwell

A group of enterprising high school students from Hart County made a suggestion recently with which we are wholly on board. The 2020 class of Leadership Hart Youth asked for the Hartwell City Council’s help earlier this month in attracting a movie theater to town.

Editorial: Prepare for the worst weather

Hart County was on the receiving end of some nasty weather on Jan. 11. A band of storms moved through the area that Saturday evening that brought high winds, heavy rain and caused some damage. Luckily, no tornado, serious damage or injuries were reported.
