It’s been three plus weeks since the Hart Chamber’s Executive Committee, made — by all accounts — a capricious and arbitrary personnel decision in firing Executive Director Lindsey Ingle without consulting the other nine members of its Board of Directors, and then compounded that error by going,...

Porches are a prominent feature of homes in Chautauqua. As you walk the tree-lined paths through neighborhoods, you hear lively discussions punctuated with laughter. There is a variety of scheduled “porch chats” on specific topics, but most are impromptu visits among friends—old and new. This photo was taken from the porch of our hosts, Erroll and Elaine Davis. We met in 2008 when Gov. Sonny Perdue appointed me to the Board of Regents and Erroll was chancellor.
There’s another way to spell ‘eutopia’
Dink NeSmith
Is it eutopia or utopia?
I’m no scholar. But in Greek, “utopia” translates to “no place,” which can only be found in books. I’m not talking about that one.

Kaleidoscope of Love
News Staff
I was recently doing my morning walk, wearing my ear buds, when I heard them play an old love song. In the song the singer was extolling his undying love for his lady friend. And I got to thinking about the word “love”.

Christians must vote
News Staff
I recently heard former Governor Mike Huckabee say that 40 million Christians did not vote in the 2016 and 2020 US elections. Even though that number could be overstated, I find that hard to believe.

Stunt double for ‘The Rock’ also has a soft side
News Staff
It seems appropriate that the popular American Ninja Warrior is showing on television when Myles Humphus telephones me. Humphus is not a Ninja, but he’s certainly a warrior. He could pass for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the actor. In fact, he has passed for Johnson, many times over the last 11 years.

The connection with the families of Griffin Phelps, left, and Andy Peel, right, runs five generations deep with the NeSmiths. The UGA freshmen visited our Smithonia farm on Aug. 25.
UGA students help keep us hometown-connected
Dink NeSmith
The decision wasn’t easy.
Our family sat around an oval oak table in the kitchen for months, pondering and praying. Our family’s hearts and our souls were woven into the fabric of my hometown. Ripping us out would be as painful as snatching a 3-foot Band-Aid off sensitive skin.
