ATHENS, GA-- Six college students from Hartwell will turn their tassels tomorrow as the University of Georgia will celebrate more than 2,900 candidates for graduation in the Class of 2023 during upcoming commencement ceremonies at Stegman Coliseum.

Bad weather causes train derailment

Last weekend’s bad weather helped cause a train derailment on the Hartwell Railroad Company’s line running along Bowersville Highway on State Route 51 west of Hartwell. The heavy rain caused the track to move which caused the derailment on the morning of Dec. 11.

Georgia again collecting gasoline tax

ATLANTA - Georgia’s on-again, off-again gasoline tax suspension is back off. Gov. Brian Kemp and the General Assembly allowed the latest temporary suspension to expire on Wednesday. That means the state Department of Revenue will resume collecting 29 cents per gallon from motorists.

HIS Radio is building for the future

HIS Radio, the nonprofit radio ministry, has officially broken ground on its new home just up the road in Greenville, SC. A part of the Radio Training group of stations, HIS radio began broadcasting back in 1983 in a small 1700 sq. ft. house.

Heart2Hart needs gift donations for children this Christmas

Hart County 501c3 charity Heart2Hart is collecting gifts for about 100 needy children this holiday season, and is still seeking donations. Letha Pettys, founder and coordinator of the nonprofit, says most of the children’s gifts have been supplied, but that many have yet to be served.
