The different types of breast cancer

From Staff Reports   The term “breast cancer” does not describe a single type of cancer, but rather several forms of a disease that can develop in areas of the breast. The American Cancer Society says breast cancer type is determined by the specific cells in the breast that become cancerous.

‘Don’t assume’: A breast cancer survivor’s words of wisdom

As Breast Cancer Awareness is observed this week, one local survivor, Donna Greer, shares her most crucial piece of advice: “don’t assume.” Not “assuming” she was cancer free, and going to her annual mammogram in July 2001, may have saved Greer’s life.

The Summer House is more than a house

There’s more to the yellow house on Benson Street than meets the eye. As of April this year, it has been transformed into The Summer House: a consignment and thrift store with something to offer to every customer, melding local art, antiques, furniture, and other goods.

Depot Day & HartOberFest take Hartwell this Saturday

This Saturday, Oct. 19, Depot Day and HartOberFest will fill downtown Hartwell for a day of community and fundraising efforts. This is the third year the two events will share the same day in order to offer the best experience possible for the community, with a total of 96 vendors.

Early voting in Georgia off to brisk start

ATLANTA - Early voting is off to a fast start in Georgia, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger reported Tuesday. As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, about 72,000 Georgians already had cast their ballots on the first day of the early voting period.

Comet descends over Hart County

Comet C/2023A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, a rare, once-in-a-lifetime comet visible once every 80,000 years, has been spotted all across the United States over the last week. The comet graced the Hart County skies as well, as it was seen in this picture which was submitted to us by Brandon White.

Board of Ed. gives thanks for recent successes

The recent successes of the Hart County Charter System were on full display Oct. 14 during the Board of Education’s regular monthly meeting. The Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA), recently recognized the Hart County Board of Education as an exemplary board of 2024.
