Camp, Leard face off for Hart EMC board spot

Two candidates from Hart County are vying for the open position on the Hart Electric Membership Corporation Board of Directors. Both candidates, Bill Leard and Chris Camp, have a history with Hart EMC.

Georgia State Patrol Post 52 introduces new commander

Lavonia — A familiar face has taken command of Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post 52. Sgt. 1st Class Richard Camran Fleming, who was one of the troopers who opened the post in 2015, was promoted to commander June 16. “It’s an achievement,” Fleming said.

On Monday, June 28 there was a two-car collision at the intersection of S. Jackson and W. Gibson Streets, just short of the Coin Laundry on the corner. No serious injuries were reported.

Hartwell celebrates Pre-Fourth

The annual Pre-Fourth Extravaganza took place in Hartwell on Saturday, arguably the most notable festival weekend each year. A record amount of more than 160 vendor booths attended the parade and market portion and a similarly large crowd made its way to Hartwell for the festivities.

‘Person of interest’ under investigation for shooting threats

Update 1:00 p.m. June 29, 2022 Law enforcement identified a person of interest last week related to shooting threats texted to Ritz Instrument Transformers employees on June 20 and June 22.

Charter System buys 67-acre plot for ‘future growth’

The Hart County Charter System is purchasing 67.82 acres on Bowman Highway for “future growth,” according to superintendent Jay Floyd. In a called meeting on June 27, the Hart County Board of Education approved entering into contract between G.F. Parker Inc.

Synovus donates to REACH scholarship fund

The Hart County Education Foundation accepted a $1,000 donation last week from Synovus of Hartwell to benefit the REACH Hart scholarship.
