Have you ever been fired?

The news is full of federal firings. Have you ever been fired? I have. Twice. The first time, it was by a phone call to my Damascus Hilton room in Syria. I was participating in a Middle East Travel seminar. I would be back in three weeks, but Gov. Roy Barnes couldn’t wait. Resign or be tossed.

Who’ll need all of this stuff from 58 years of marriage?

   As I sit in my tiny, overstuffed study at home, I am almost embarrassed, So much material, so many books, so many clippings, so many letters, files, cabinets. Memorabilia galore. Somebody, or somebodies, will have to go through this overkill after my wife and I are gone.

Lake Hartwell Association’s annual meeting streaming March 11

Current and perspective members of the Lake Hartwell Association will have the opportunity to participate in the organization’s annual meeting March 11 by watching the live stream at the Hartwell Art Center. The actual event will take place at the Civic Center of Anderson.
Rotary Club of Hartwell members who attended the installation of the new members of the Rotary Club of Lavonia Feb. 6 at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia include (L-R) Mike Everett, Rich Mewborn, Melissa NeSmith, Theo Derleth, Jeff Loggins, Nancy Butler, Debbie Kulcsar, Jason Ford, Mike Alexander, Wyndee McKinnon, Frank Slovenic, Billy Kidd and Brian Metzger. The Lavonia club will be considered a satellite club of the Hartwell club until it reaches 20 members and can apply for its own charter.
