Humane Society Pontoon Poker Run set for Saturday

The Hart County Humane Society will be hosting the annual Pontoon Poker Run on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Big Water Marina to help raise support for rescued dogs. The Humane Society works passionately every day to end the euthanizing of adoptable shelter animals.

Guidestones go to Elberton Granite Association

The remnants of the Georgia Guidestones will have a new home as they were donated to the Elberton Granite Association (EGA) Museum after a vote from the Elbert County Board of Commissioners during Monday night’s meeting. The vote came after hesitancy from the board as they lagged to make a motion.

Woman organizes fund for Kentucky flood victims

Hart County Habitat for Humanity director Darlene Nixon has a birthday wish this year; help the people of Eastern Kentucky. Parts of Kentucky have been devastated by recent flooding in the region. Nearly 40 people have lost their lives, and thousands more have been displaced from their homes.

Agriscience center hosts EMC Goat Show

The fifth annual Hart EMC Goat Show put on a spectacle Saturday, Aug. 6, for middle and high school students to present their livestock and determine who the G.O.A.T. is.

Sun rises on senior year

A few dozen seniors at Hart County High School (HCHS) were up at the crack of dawn, literally, on Friday, Aug. 5 to kick off their final year of high school. HCHS Principal Kevin Gaines came up with the idea to host the seniors in Herndon Stadium for the Friday morning sunrise.

Woman killed in Bowersville wreck

A woman was killed in a two-car accident at the intersection of Lankford and Adams Town Roads on Thursday, Aug. 4. According to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland, Satira Leverette, 50, was crossing Lankford Road from Adams Town Road and did not come to a brake at the four-way stop.

Forming connections: CSP offers new opportunities for special needs families

Children are a blessing but sometimes parents need help with their blessing. Connections for Special Parents (CSP) is one such organization that seeks to do exactly that. Located in Royston, CSP was formed to support and connect parents/caregivers raising a child with special needs.
