Judge swears in Brown early

Jeff Brown was sworn into office as a Hart County commissioner on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The oath of office was given at 4 p.m. in the courtroom of the Hart County Courthouse, with judge Jeffery Malcom presiding.

Senior cheerleader makes GCCA all-state team

Hart County High School senior Ally Anderson made the top 16 at the 2022 GCCA Cheerleader of the Year competition in Columbus this past weekend. In making the top 16, Anderson was named to the all state squad for A-AAAA, a first for a Hart County cheerleader.

Gordy takes over cross-country, teams to lean on youth

The Hart County cross country teams are under new leadership with assistant coach Ana Gordy taking over as head coach this year. Gordy has been coaching the team along side former coach Cecil Marett for the last 12 years. When Marett retired, Gordy took up the mantle.

Lady Diamond Dogs start season 3-0

The Lady Diamond Dogs kicked off their season last week, but didn’t make it through a full game after run-ruling both opponents. The Hart County High School Softball team hosted Gainesville and Chestatee at home on Aug. 5 in a doubleheader to start the fast-pitch 2022 season.

Hart football to play in Gridiron Classic

The Hart County football team will again be competing in the Lake Hartwell Gridiron Classic Weekend this year for their preseason game. This year, the Bulldogs will travel to Westside High School in Anderson, S.C., and play Westside and Wrens High School at 6 p.m, on Friday, Aug. 12.

Middle school welcomes new band director

Hart County Middle School recently welcomed a new band director for the 2022-23 school year. Jeff Stewart comes to Hart County from Greene County Middle School, where he served as band director for the last six years.

Tradition matters in college football

Here we are just three short weeks away from my favorite time of the year — college football season — but it doesn’t feel like most years. Following college football news lately is turning me into an old curmudgeon but I’m sure plenty of you can relate. Things just ain’t like they used to be.
