Skills USA brings home state championships

The 2023 SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference ended with Hart County bringing home two State Championships and eight medals in total. Students from across the state attended the SkillsUSA Georgia State Championships on March 9-11 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Investigating grave concerns

For the citizens of Hart County and elsewhere with complaints about the condition of the final resting place for loved ones buried at Nancy Hart Memorial Gardens, those complaints have not gone unheard.

Election Day for ESPLOST is March 21

Hart County voters will vote for or against the renewal of ESPLOST VI (Educational Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax) next Tuesday, including a bond issuance that would result in $7 million of new debt.

Seven year old wins Georgia State Wrestling Championship

Hartwell native, Knox Payne, is now a Georgia Wrestling State Champion, after winning it all in Perry, Ga., on March 5. Payne is in just his second year of wrestling and competed last year in the state competition in the 6U division, but was quickly eliminated after losing both matches.

Diamond Dogs could not find a way to end the losing streak

The Diamond Dogs dropped both games at home against Stony Brook of New York and Prince Avenue Christian. The Dogs were looking to turn things around in the month of March and get back to their winning ways, but Stony Brook continued the Dogs losing streak and got the 10-0 win on the road.

Webb continues to check off his goals

Former Hart County and current Emmanuel College guard Shone “Spud” Webb collected more accolades than he could carry while helping lead his team to a conference championship. After Webb was redshirted just a season ago, he didn’t know what his future looked like for the Lions.

Soccer teams go 1-2 in three game stretch

The Dogs soccer teams split against Rabun and Oglethorpe on the road, while both fell to Oconee at home in the region opener. The teams started the three-game stretch with a trip to Rabun County on March 2. The girls picked up a 5-3 win led by sophomore forward Channing Segars’ hat trick.

Elite Eight Ending

The Hart County boys’ basketball tournament run ends with a road loss to Cross Creek in the elite eight. On March 1, the Dogs traveled down to Cross Creek, and the back-to-back state champions in AAA were looking to continue their run at another title.

Hart County FFA students excelled at a recent competition in Perry, including one senior who shined and ended her last show with a triumphant finish.
