University system sets record for degrees awarded

ATLANTA – The University System of Georgia (USG) awarded a record 76,571 degrees during the last fiscal year, up 1.8% over fiscal 2023. The number of degrees the system’s 26 institutions have awarded has risen by 39.

Georgia sets tourism records for second straight year

ATLANTA – Georgia broke tourism records last year for the second year in a row, setting an all-time high for visitors, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Tuesday. The number of domestic and international visitors to the Peach State increased by 5 million in 2023 to a record 171 million.

Cadets complete FROG week

DAHLONEGA, GA - The University of North Georgia’s (UNG) 220 newest cadets began their time in the Corps of Cadets with Freshman Recruit Orientation Group (FROG) Week from Aug. 4-10. One of the freshman who completed FROG week was Hartwell’s own Nicole Whaley.

On Sept. 21, Georgia’s U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff will address regional voters along with other local Democratic candidates at Yarbrough Park in downtown Comer. Madison County Democratic Chairman Abby Sjoberg Weaver says she’s excited the community will be able to hear from Senator Ossoff in person.
