We have been fortunate in Hart County to have seen a relatively few number of total cases of COVID-19 compared to many other places. We are still among the lower end of the rates of infection per 100,000 people in Georgia.

The time has come to heal

One hundred fifty-one days into 1900 — May 31 — Ezra and Susie McNeal welcomed a baby girl, Essie. In 1910 the family bounced, in a wagon, from lower Alabama to Baker County, Georgia. Word was that schools were better on this side of the Chattahoochee River.

Graduation was different but still memorable

Some things are definitely better late than never. That much was proven on Saturday, July 18, when the roughly 230 graduates in the Hart County High School Class of 2020 gathered to turn their tassels and officially bring their high school careers to a close.

As sure as a South Georgia boy shows up for the second grade snaggle-toothed, he’s going to have a nickname. I didn’t have to wait that long. Before Big Dink ever saw that I had his blue eyes, too, I was destined to be Little Dink. Monikers are as Southern as sweet tea.
