Georgians starting to get tax refund checks

Georgia taxpayers have begun receiving refunds for the second year in a row, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday. House Bill 162, which the General Assembly passed in March, uses part of Georgia’s revenue surplus of more than $6 billion to pay for a refund of state income taxes from 2021.

The Georgia General Assembly recently completed the 2023 legislative session and I have returned home to the district to spend more time in our community. Each legislative session, the General Assembly has a constitutional obligation to pass a balanced state budget.

The Georgia General Assembly returned to the State Capitol for the final two days of the 2023 legislative session on Monday, March 27, and on Wednesday, March 29. This marks the start of a 40-day window for Gov. Kemp to decide which measures he will sign into law, and which he will veto.

Bill raising truck weights passes General Assembly

Legislation raising the legal weight limits on commercial trucks hauling certain types of cargo in certain parts of Georgia was one of the last to gain final passage during this year’s General Assembly session.

On Monday, March 20, the Georgia House of Representatives reconvened under the Gold Dome for our last full week of the 2023 legislative session. The end of session is quickly approaching, and we will reach Legislative Day 40, also known as “Sine Die,” on March 29.
