Mental health hotline a positive step

Last week, we covered an important new service soon available for Georgians and Hart County residents, a mental health crisis hotline. The 9-8-8 direct line will operate just like 9-1-1 and send the caller directly to a trained National Suicide Prevention Lifeline counselor.

Short-term rental issue needs compromises

We are glad to see the Hart County Board of Commissioners listening to “both sides” in the recent short-term rental ordinance issue. As is the case with most controversial topics that come before our county’s elected officials, this issue is nuanced.

Delivering papers and receiving generosity

I was taking in the tragic events unfolding from Uvalde, Texas last Monday and Tuesday as our deadline for the May 26 paper came and went. I was still processing the news and didn’t feel like I had the time or bandwidth to crank out a meaningful column on the topic for you.

Hart Co. setting a democratic example

We the People constantly work toward the formation of a more perfect union as described by the founding fathers more than 200 years ago. A “perfect” union will never exist, but that is not the goal. The goal is a “more” perfect union.

We are lucky if we can find a best friend

The love affair didn’t blossom when he first opened his eyes on March 9, 1942. Not quite. But when Lawrence Cohen Walker Jr. started toddling around his daddy’s tractor and farm-supply store, he began taking notice of his hometown.
