George completes Appalachian Trail hike

Hartwell native Julie George has conquered the 2,198.4-mile hike through the Appalachian Trail in 161 days. Back in November 2023, The Sun interviewed the Hartwell native just months before embarking on her journey on the Appalachian Trail.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   The following is a list of names entered into the booking computer at Hart County Jail for Sept. 3-9, 2024. Names, ages and towns are listed as they appear in the computer. Offenses listed are charges; guilt has not been proven.

Cadets complete FROG week

DAHLONEGA, GA - The University of North Georgia’s (UNG) 220 newest cadets began their time in the Corps of Cadets with Freshman Recruit Orientation Group (FROG) Week from Aug. 4-10. One of the freshman who completed FROG week was Hartwell’s own Nicole Whaley.

Archery deer hunting season opens Sept. 14

Bow hunters in Hart County, rejoice! According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) statewide archery deer hunting season opens up to the public this Saturday, Sept. 14. Last year, 85,000 archery hunters harvested 55,000 deer.
