St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is doing a yearlong study of housing insecurity, starting in our fall Bible Study Christian Formations series:  “The Son of Man Has Nowhere to Lay His Head.  What Shall We Do About That?”  In our first session, we had 26 questions.

Mordecai: ‘You’re not supposed to stay dumb for 99 years’

Mordecai Wilson was relaxing in his recliner when we arrived at his home in Lula, a town of about 3,000 in northeast Georgia. I had never met the man, although I’d read several of his letters in a newspaper, words encouraging people to follow God and do the right thing.

An urban legend is defined as a genre of folklore concerning stories about a sometimes scary event that many people believe to be true but largely are not. As a writer and storyteller, I love a good urban legend. Take the Boston Red Sox infamous ‘Curse of the Bambino,’ for example.

Storm conditions lead to crashes, overturned semi

Around 3:45 p.m. last Thursday, Sept. 26, two crashes involving semi trucks led to traffic buildup on I-85 and sent three to the hospital as Hurricane Helene geared up.

Helene greets Hart County with down trees and power lines

Hurricane Helene, the deadly Category 4 storm which made landfall in Steinhatchee, FL Sept. 26, worked it’s way through Hart County last Friday. Around 7 a.m. that morning, Helene’s eye passed right over Hartwell’s downtown square.
