Theatre receives $300,000 ARC grant

Submitted by Jason Ford  City of Hartwell  The Hartwell Downtown Development Authority, in partnership with the Hartwell Main Street Program, announces the award of a $300,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to support the Hart County Community Theatre Improvements Project.

First reading held for commercial annexation

A first reading for an annexation request that would bring just under five acres into the Hartwell city limits for commercial purposes was held by the Hartwell City Council Monday night.  The 4.92 acres is located on seven parcels on Old Highway 29 next to Quality Inn.

Roundabout concepts

A concept for a potential roundabout project that would create better connectivity from Howell Street to Powell Road is set to be the City of Hartwell's focus in upcoming conversations with the Hart County Board of Commissioners.

Citizen's firearm class to be held March 24

Hart County Sheriff Chris Carroll has announced the Hart County Sheriff's Office will host a citizen's firearm class March 24.  The class will begin at 5 p.m. in the sheriff's office training room.  The second portion of the class will take place March 26 at 4:30 p.m.

Sheriff's office warns of scam impersonating employees

A scam involving callers impersonating employees at the Hart County Sheriff's Office is circulating, Hart County Sheriff Chris Caroll announced on Facebook.

Grand Jury returns 26 true bills during February session

A Hart County grand jury returned 26 true bills and zero no bills following its February 2026 term held Feb. 16 through Feb. 17.

City discusses potential pair of projects for TSPLOST

The Hartwell City Council spent just over an hour-and-a-half Monday night discussing potential project opportunities to present to the Hart County Board of Commissioners, and the public, for a potential transportation special purpose local option sales tax (TSPLOST).

Qualifying to begin Monday

Qualifying for seats on the Hart County Board of Commissioners and Hart County Board of Education will begin Monday.  Qualifying will take place Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 6.  Those registering with the Republican Party will register in the Hart County Adult Learning Center from 9 a.m.

Joint meeting for March 12 moved to Agriscience Center

A second joint meeting between the Hart County Board of Commissioners and Hartwell City Council, set for March 12, has been moved to the Hart County Charter System's Agriscience Center.  Chairman Marshall Sayer and County Administrator Terrell Partain made the announcement Tuesday night.

Brown not seeking re-election

Commissioner Jeff Brown will not seek re-election as District 4's county commissioner when qualifying begins next week.  Brown made the announcement during Tuesday's board meeting.  "Mr. Chairman, fellow commissioners, county staff, members of the public.
