Shelby Cawthon
Shelby Jean (Ertzberger) Cawthon, 85, of Lavonia, passed away Thursday, April 29. 2021 at Habersham Home West following an extended illness.
Born April 3, 1936 in Hartwell, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clyde and Mary (Minish) Ertzberger. She graduated from Hart County High School where she played basketball. She worked at Northeast Georgia Bank and was a partner, with her husband and brother-in-law, in Cawthon Brothers Rentals. Mrs. Cawthon was an active member of the Lavonia Pilot Club having served twice as President and once as Lt. Governor. She was also an active member of Lavonia First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Cawthon and her son-in-law, Mark Spivey.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela "Pam" Spivey of the home; nieces: Sandra King and Doug of Lavonia, Joan Warren and Dr. Rudy of Dunwoody, Jean Bryant Mason of Lavonia and Annette and David Carson of Hoschton; nephew: Ron Whiten and Mary Ann of Greenville, S.C. and several cousins, aunts and uncles. 
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Dr. Larry Finger and the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. A private burial will be held in Franklin Memorial Gardens - North. Memorial donations may be made, in memory of Shelby, to Lavonia First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 47, Lavonia, GA 30553.
