Rodney Ashworth
Rodney Gerald Ashworth, 52, of Benson Street, Hartwell, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021 at his home.
Born on July 31, 1968 in Anderson, S.C., he was the son of Gerald Floyd Ashworth and Martha Lane Cromer Ashworth. Mr. Ashworth worked as a distributor for Flowers Bakery and he was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. 
Rodney played softball from age 15 until his forties on teams all over the US, then became an avid golfer and member of the Hartwell Golf Club. He was also an avid Florida Gators and North Carolina Tar Heels Fan. Rodney coached volleyball at Crescent High School for two years. He has been a lay coach for the Hart County High School Boys Basketball team for more than 20 years and has coached under Coach Jim Burch, Coach Mike Cleveland, and Coach Harry Marsh. Rodney also coached Golf at Hart County High School for three years.
Survivors include his parents; his wife: Sharon Kay Humphrey Ashworth of the home; his son: Cohen Minor Ashworth of the home; one brother: Jason Lamar Ashworth (Misty) of Hartwell; his paternal grandmother: Verna Helen Ashworth; one brother-in-law: Dr. Stewart Humphrey (Alejandra) of Cape Gerado, MO; three nieces: Emily Ashworth, Mary Ashworth, Abby Ashworth; and one nephew: John Stewart Humphrey.  Mr. Ashworth was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.
A service celebrating Rodney's life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Webb and Rev. Gary Thompson officiating. Rodney wished to be cremated following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may made in Rodney's name to the Hart County Tipoff Club, c/o the Boys Basketball Team, 59 Fifth Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.
