Robert Smithson
Robert A. Smithson, 67, passed away at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at his home in Lima, Ohio, with his loving wife at his side.
Robert was born on May 20, 1953, in Houston, Texas, to the late Howard and Beverly (Cloud) Smithson. He grew up in Bellevue, Ohio.  On July 6, 1999 he married Garlene L. (Depp) Smithson who survives in Lima.  
Robert was a retired Engineer working for Norfolk Southern Railroad and private business owner. He was a dedicated and former member of Kiwanis Club of Lima, Friends of Johnny Appleseed Park District, Friends of Georgia State Parks, National, Ohio & Georgia Bassmasters. He attended Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, was a singer with Voices of Ohio, in the All-Ohio Youth Choir, in the Lima Symphony Chorus,  the Men's Chorus in Hartwell, and the First Baptist Church choir of Hartwell, and Lima, Ohio. Robert was also a state representative for the American Numismatic Association and member of CONA.
 In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Stephanie Smithson of Lima, Ohio; Michele (Shannon) Bryant of Weir, Texas; Jodi (Mike Delong) Stambaugh of New Haven, Ind.; Robert (Kendra) Smithson of Monroeville, Ohio; Jessica (Ken) Butterfield of Ft. Wayne, Ind.;  Michael (Melissa) Smithson of Lima, and Zachary (Yvonne) Smithson of Helena, Ohio; step-children: Gary Penn, Nancy Calhoun, and Robert (Charlene) Penn all of Columbus, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Rick Bressler of Sandusky, Ohio; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bosecker of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; brother-in-law, Terry (Marlyn) Depp of Denver, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Valerie Bressler; and infant brothers, Ronald and Roger Smithson.
A funeral service was held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26. Chaplin Herb Wilker officiated. Burial was in Smithson Farm Cemetery, Union, W Va. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Society or donor's choice.
