Ms. Marlene M. Janter Rex of Monroe, Michigan died peacefully on Thursday evening March 4, 2021 after several months of heart related issues. Marlene was the daughter of late Mr. and Mrs. Marlin B Janter. She is survived by her brother, "Dr. Thomas and Mr. Legrand Maness Janter" of Tranquility Manor, 1149 Tranquility Lane in Hartwell; cousins: Cynthia Fitzgerald, Scott Cole, Jeff Cole of Waterford, Mich. and Juanita (DeeDee) Jacquemain, and dear friends. Marlene graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master Program in Social Studies from the Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti MI. She was a teacher, coach, leader, and friend to thousands of students at Monroe High School for more than 35 years and called "REX" by those students. As written by a senior on May 25, 1979 in a thank you note, Betsy Cooke, said "You've shown so much patience, kindness, and understanding towards us while, at the same time you've taught us to grow, take on responsibilities, and believe in our selves, all of this taking hours upon hours of your own time." "REX" took those young swimmers from an entertaining swim club to an award winning 13-year Michigan Statewide Championship Precision Synchronized Swim Team.
After retiring from a life as a teacher/coach and friend, Marlene Rex turned to another passion of hers, the love of animals and humanity. By 1998, Marlene starting volunteering timelessly and became a Philanthropist/Benefactor to The Humane Society of Monroe and then to Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet.
