Margaret Nell Dyal
Margaret Nell Dyal, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
She was born on September 11, 1950, in Jesup, Ga., to James Edgar Dyal and Dorothy Swensen Dyal.
Margaret was a graduate of FSU and the University of Georgia Law School. She served in the Women's Army Corp and worked weekends at the Dupont plant in Athens to pay for law school, determined to be self reliant and independent which she was her whole life.
She practiced law in Lavonia, Ga. for 40 years. In addition, she worked for Child Support Enforcement for several years and served as a city judge for one year and a Northern Circuit Juvenile Court Judge for 13 years. She volunteered as a Little League coach in the 80's and she was a mentor to many young people. Margaret was a devout Catholic and an independent voter. She was a lover of water: swimming, kayaking and water skiing. She was a life long reader, a life long learner and a world traveler. Margaret had a deep love and loyalty for her family and her dogs especially LuLu. She lived her life with integrity and honesty. She did not follow the beaten path but made her own way on her own terms.
She is survived by her sisters: Maryann Dyal of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Katy Campbell (husband Johnie) of Baxley, Ga., Sharon Dyal of Fernandina Beach, Fla. and Phyllis Moen of Minneapolis, Minn.; two nieces: Maggie Disharoon and Laura Harrison; and three great nieces: Logan and Hannah Roose and Campbell Ann Harrison. She was preceded in death by her parents. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Benson Street in Hartwell.
Memorials may be made to the National Park Service. Coile and Hall Funeral Home in Hartwell is in charge of arrangements.
