"Jerry" Vickery

Anderson, S.C. - Charles Jerald Vickery, 78, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021.
Born at home in Hartwell, Ga,, he was the son of the late Thurston H. Vickery, Sr. and Alice Vernon Ayers Vickery Adams. He attended Hart County Schools through the ninth grade before moving to Anderson, S.C., where he attended Anderson Boys High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. When he served in the Military Police at Camp Peary in Williamsburg, Va., he became the youngest sergeant in the U.S. Army at the time. Jerry was owner and operator of CJ's Machining, Inc. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and served on many committees of the church. He was Past Master of Ruff Lodge #240 AFM and was a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Ramona G. Vickery; son, Chuck Vickery (Jan); daughter, Jeri Ann Smith (Kevin); four grandchildren, Brandon Vickery, Kendall Smith, Kylee Smith, and Rhett Smith; two great-grandchildren, Micah and Silas Vickery; three brothers, Kenneth Vickery (Grace), Dusty Vickery, and Timmy Vickery; and two sisters, Vicki Floyd (Ricky) and Sandy Floyd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Thurston Hubert Vickery, Jr.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 16, at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Bryan Cribb, Rev. Tom Turner, and Dr. Drew Gunter. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
