James Earl McCurley
Whose faith, love and generosity enriched the lives of all who knew him. He mirrored God's love with open arms. Many came into his home as strangers and left as family. Our hearts are heavy with the pain of losing him but blessed knowing that his legacy leaves behind a family who loves and worships God.
James Earl McCurley, 89, beloved husband of Willene for 63 years; loving father of Gary (Sue) McCurley, Lea (Barry) Powell, Jean (Louis) Carver, and Philip (Terry) McCurley; caring grandfather of Joy Stovall, Joshua, Cynthia, and Adah McCurley, Julia Cooney, William, Jonathan, and Audrianna Powell, Hannah McCurley-Kemp, Megan Buce, and Bethany McCurley; and Papa to 10 great-grandchildren.
He pastored more than eight churches from Alabama to South Carolina, sent missionaries to more than 10 countries, and pioneered two churches, including Evangel Christian Fellowship in Seneca, S.C., which he started in his living room and pastored for 20 years before retiring in 2008. He continued to counsel and mentor couples until he passed away on Nov. 2, 2019. His presence will be missed, but his wisdom never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Encounter Church, 1318 Reed Creek Highway, Hartwell.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor James' memory through donating to missions. All donations can be sent to Encounter Church, 1318 Reed Creek Highway, Hartwell, GA 30643.
