Grace Powell
Myrtle Grace Chambers Powell, 93, of Duluth, formerly of Hartwell, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
Grace was born on July 13, 1927 in Clover, S.C., to the late Clyde Clifton Chambers and Maggie Estell Stewart Chambers. She spent most of her childhood and young adult years in Anderson, S.C. After her marriage to the late Robert Horace Powell, Sr., the family moved to Hartwell where Grace remained until 2017 when she moved to Duluth, to be with family. While in Hartwell, Grace was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell where she served as a GA leader, WMU Director, and Church Hostess. She dearly loved the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and her Baptist Women's group. For many years, Grace worked at City Elections, serving as Elections Manager for several years. After moving to Duluth, Grace joined Parkway Baptist Church where she faithfully attended all services and the Ladies weekly Bible Study.
Family was the great love of Grace's life. She is survived by a daughter, Jane Redman (Dave) of Duluth; son, Robert H. Powell, Jr. (Rhonda) of Hoschton; sisters: Dot Fowler and Eunice Fuller of Anderson; grandchildren: Shane Campbell (Jennifer) and Holly Turner (Daniel); five great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Gordon, Havern, and Clyde Chambers; and sisters: Louise Gibson, Patsy Campbell, and Frances Rhouda.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, in the Hartwell Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. James M. King and Dr. F. Hugh Kirby officiating. Burial was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
Because of Grace's great love of missions, the family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Missions program of the Parkway Baptist Church, 5975 State Bridge Road, Duluth GA 30097.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell was in charge of all arrangements. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.stricklandfh.com.
