Mrs. Debra Faye Simpson "Debbie" Borders, 64, of Oakland Street, Hartwell, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at her home.
Born on September 11, 1956 in Abbeville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Ernest Simpson and Amanda Link Simpson Ethridge. Mrs. Borders received a Master's Degree in Education from Brenau University and worked for the Hart Co Board of Education, Alpine Program in Lavonia, and the Washington-Wilkes Board of Education.
Debbie is survived by a daughter, Angie Gholston (Solomon) of Statesboro, Ga.; two sons: Bryan Borders (Tracy) of Hartwell and Christopher Borders of Tamassee, S.C.; three sisters: Robbie Walker and Cindy Sokol of Hartwell and Dena Ethridge of Royston; a brother, Donnie Ethridge of Hartwell; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a step-father, Walter Earl Ethridge of Hartwell also survives.  Mrs. Borders was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Borders and a brother, Doug Simpson.
Because of the current conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family will not be having a formal visitation. They ask that everyone keep them in their thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks.
A Celebration of Debbie's life was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with the Rev. Terry Meeks officiating.
