Carey Payne

Carey J. Payne, Jr, 89, of Kennesaw, Ga., passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Winnwood Assisted Living, Marietta, Ga.
Born on September 2, 1930 in Hartwell Ga., he was the son of the late Norman Payne and Mabel Sanders Payne. Mr. Payne was the owner/operator of a Shell gas station in Roswell, Ga. and was of the Baptist Church. He also was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War.
Survivors include one brother, Tribble Payne (Cheryl) of Hartwell; one sister, Betty Ann Lunsford (Waymon) of Canon; two caregivers: Lori Smith and Debbie Turner both of Marietta and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife, Janette Craft Payne; his daughter, Sharon K. Payne; two brothers: Harry J. Payne and Jerry B. Payne and one sister, Sara P. Bannister.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 22, in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with the Rev. Ken Brewer officiating. Burial was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Military Honors.
