Brenda Vail
Brenda Macijewski Vail, age 76, of Hartwell, Ga., passed away peacefully on March 4, 2021, at the Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Athens, Ga., following an extended illness.
Brenda was the daughter of the late Martin Macijewski and Lenora Hembree, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Herman Macijewski. Brenda was formerly employed as a nurse for more than 40 years, specializing in midwifery for more than 30 years. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hartwell, where she sang in the choir, helped teach the adult Sunday School Class, served as Session Clerk, and served as the Elder for Mission. Brenda helped with the Annual World Day of Prayer programs locally and also tirelessly served in several local ministries including Hart Interdenominational Ministries (HIM) which she founded, the Hart County School System mentoring program, and the Kairos Prison Ministry International's outreach to residents of the Whitworth Women's Correctional Facility in Hartwell. In addition to local volunteer work, Brenda was active on the Presbyterian Women's Coordinating Team for NE Georgia, serving as Mission Coordinator for the North Central Mission community. Brenda loved spending time with her family, friends, and ministry colleagues and especially enjoyed gardening, as well as making and sending creative greeting cards. She also enjoyed reading, especially poetry. Brenda loved the Lord, loved people, and had a servant's heart that resulted in great compassion, generosity, and service to others. She will be missed greatly and forever cherished by all who knew her.
Survivors include Brenda's two children and their spouses: Steve and Michelle Vail, Bob and Lori Vail and three grandchildren: Emily, Ellie and Wes. She is also survived by two sisters and their spouses, Margaret and Royce Dyer, Jane and Donald Vaughn, and her brother and his spouse, David and Debbie Macijewski.
A service for the community will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell, with the Rev. Joan Stevens and Rev. Ann Mann officiating. A visitation at the funeral home will immediately follow the service.
