Bobbie Sokol
Bobbie Sue Greenway Sokol, age 95, of the Flat Rock community in Starr, S.C., and currently residing at Morningside of Anderson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Born February 1, 1926 in Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late George Grover Greenway and Lucy Hall Greenway. She was married to George E. Sokol, Sr. until his death in 2007.
Bobbie attended nursing school at Anderson Memorial Hospital in 1944 and practiced nursing for more than 50 years. Following her retirement from Dr. Robert Sewell's office, she took many trips across the country as she loved to travel. Her favorite place to visit was Myrtle Beach. Bobbie was a life member of the Starr Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star where she was a past District Grand Matron and was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, G. Edward Sokol, Jr. (Sonja) of Starr, S.C.; sisters, Dorothy Greenway Weathers of Hartwell, and Jimmie Greenway Richardson of Alabama; grandchildren, Jonathon E. Sokol (Karen) of Hartwell, and B. Casey Sokol (Allison) and their children, Lillian Ashleigh Sokol and Whitner Tate Sokol of Belton, S.C.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Tommy, and Jack Greenway; and sisters, Mildred Greenway Dyar and Mary Greenway Osborne.
The funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, with the Rev. David Pickens officiating. Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
